ASPI welfare

I always wonder why the taxpayer should provide welfare to think tanks that have "analysis" of such poor quality.

"The demise of the F-111 would have resulted in another capability gap if not for the purchase of an ‘interim’ Super Hornet fleet which will cost over $5 billion to acquire and probably as much to operate before the Joint Strike Fighter arrives."
Oh dear. Well, the Super has not shown thus far that it replaces the long range strike ability of the F-111. Boeing did the last maintenance control on Australian F-111s: The classic Fox telling the Farmer, the definition of a Chicken.

Accurate capability comparison on this issue is addressed here.

The last good war...er... I mean the last good Defence White Paper was in 2000.

One must first ask how various members of the Entrenched Defence Bureaucracy worked hard to derail it for their own interests.

"...delays in the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program were beyond the ability of the Australian system to manage."

ROFL!!!

The problem with that half-baked statement is that Australia had zero robust analysis to justify joining the F-35 program.

Zero.
