F-35: Sequester May Cost Air Force 5 More F-35As; Air Guard, Modernization At Risk
ARLINGTON: “I don’t have the exact number yet,” Air Force Maj. Gen. Edward Bolton said Tuesday, but to pay the bill for sequestration, the service might have to cut its fiscal 2013 procurements by “two, three, four, maybe even five F-35s.” “That money’s just gone,” sighed Bolton, the service’s outgoing Deputy Assistant Secretary for Budget,…Keep reading →

Some history:
“It’s about $37 million for the CTOL aircraft, which is the air force variant.”

The F-35 is a joke. It will be 18 years from the time the F-35 flew to be fully operational. The Air Force test planes to damn long. The Air Force will be lucky if they get 500 planes. Lockheed can't deliver a affordable plane without some type of problem. The Air Force will buy a small amount of F-35s and use them to suppress advanced air defenses and upgrade existing aircraft to do the rest. I wonder how things would of gone if the YF-23 had won even though it was clearly a better plane. To bad Boeing made that Turkey X-32, things might have been different if they won the competition. Lockheed is a money pit corporation. I'm getting really sick and tired of trying to defending the F-35.
"The F-35 is a joke...I'm getting really sick and tired of trying to defending the F-35."
Bang up job "defender."

Have you ever bothered to look up the development history and what the critics had to say about the little Abrams tank in your avatar? Pierre Sprey still thinks the Abrams was a waste of money.
Of course you know all of this, because you take the long view, or maybe you advocate a big expensive tank that will never work in combat as the critics said back then
If you are tired of "defending the F-35" Thanks for your service you internet warrior you, but you can stop anytime. This isn't a job is it? is your mortgage riding on this?
Based upon Boeing's development of the 787 (in much the same timeframe as the F-35), I wouldn't put too much faith in their supposed "F-32" running any better.
Pierre sprey is a terrible defense analysis who said the F-15 and F-22 should have been canceled.
F-15 has never been shot down in combat and the F-22 is unmatched. Wonder how he feels now. The F-35s problems are the cost and design flaws. NO ONE can defend these issues. I don't care how much you love the F-35 its turning into a death spiral!!!! My taxes go into a plane they've been testing for over 13 years and won't be operational until 2018, that's 18 years since first flight. The Abrams is a combat proven tank, what ever Mr. Sprey had to say is history. I said the X-32 was a turkey, I ment things might have been different if Boeing won with a different aircraft rather than the X-32. Lockheed screwed up with the F-22, F-35, expensive F-117. Boeing 787 isn't for military use is it.
It is good to bring up the X-32. The visual appearance shows how ugly the JSF JORD is. Boeing built the X-32 to a requirement. Interesting. LM went for the sales bit. Make it look like a little F-22 (X-35) and hope. Also LM conned the makers of the selection team by not having to have weapons bays in the X-35 based on alleged proven risk-reduction of demonstration with the F-22. X-32 had weapons bays, had weight trouble... X-35 won...and now the F-35 (sorry YF-35) has...weight trouble. Including this many years after contract win, we do not have a true operational empty weight.
To ArmyAbrams Tanker,
I don't agree everything what Pierre Sprey says "the F-15 and F-22 are equipped with bunch of junk and must be cancelled. Small fighters are the way to go which can outfight any other fighter in the world.". That statement I don't agree.
In some ways its true that Pierre had to say is development/combat "history". Because it's all about studying and figuring out the limitations of how fighters and bombers worked in combat and what they are capable of doing the suitable task(depending on which mission you're talking about) etc.
Indeed, things might have been different if Boeing Co. won with a different aircraft rather than the lemon X-32. Definately Lockheed has screwed up with the F-35 and the expensive F-117A.
The whole JSF (Joke Still Flying) program is extremely expensive, a waste of money, failed projects and a total delusion which goes to show of how ugly the visual appearance of the JSF JORD actually is.
To ArmyAbrams Tanker,
Thought I let you know Pierre Sprey was a "fighter mafia".
I don't think he knows the Su-27/30family, PAK-FA, J-20 and J-31 has the advantage over the small fighter (with short range) in BVR and WVR combat.
