DOD communication pulls rug out from self, again

Good grief. Another moment in bad U.S. DOD communication. Based on the comment below from the 2011 Super Hornet F/A-18E/F select acquisition report (SAR), a budget ax person with no knowledge of air power issues could take this and run. Why? The DOD said so.

“F/A-18E/F enhancements include increased range and improved carrier suitability required for the F/A-18 to continue its key strike fighter role against the advanced threats of the 21st century.”

And then comes; actual fact...well, in the eyes of those looking at timelines and money.

"The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet program continues to excel. Cost, schedule, and performance were superb during this reporting period, and the program continues to deliver aircraft ahead of schedule."

and...

"There are no significant software-related issues with this program at this time."

Not everything is "perfect".

What does JP-5 cost near the time of this report? The DOD buys in quantity at different times. In 2010, some say $2.94 per gallon.

But, the SAR does offer plenty of disclaimers in its' report.
