Via Australian Aviation:
In addition to the 4 gifted former RAAF C-130H's to Indonesia, Australia is close to a deal to sell 6 for $15M each.

One would really have to marvel at the intellectual capacity of Defence to give away such an assest given the lesssons of the recent past as well as those last century? Why I am not surprised?
So at a time when the Government's failed refugee policy is causing the Navy's patrol boats to literally crack under the strain of operations and poor maintenance. The "new" LSD is down for 6 months due to overheat issues. Additional strain placed on our P3 fleet due to this, and probably the J model Hercs as well, which now seem to be wanted everywhere at once. And lets not forget the balls ups of Collins, Caribou/C-27J, the F/A-18G folly. Regardless of the fact that what we need right now are refurbed C-130H to take some of the tasking and even patrolling strain, some idiot decides to engage in another ALP ideology folly and flog off half the H models to a neighbour that already operates a sizable fleet of them and obviously doesn't need any more because a number of them are sitting idle and in need of maintenance or upgrades.
I propose that we raise a new defence requirement that see's construction of a large chute running from Canberra to the coast into which we pour large amounts of cash to flush out to see. Seems a more efficient way of getting rid of our tax dollars.
Why are the incumbent Service Chiefs not prepared to stand up and be counted on such issues? Possible answer; they and their predecessors were involved in cementing all of the unattainable futuristic acquisition planning cemented by Howard/Rudd.
DoD is still giving away upgradable Iroquois that are in storage in Brisbane. Why not just leave them in storage for contingency purposes?
Nobody should make the mistake of thinking that Abbott & Co. will be any better than Gillard and her lot regarding defence issues. Most of the bum project decisions were initiated under Johnny Howard and driven by his disciples. For example, a former MinDef swayed the LPD and MRH90 acquisitions and a now retired South Australia Senator has been very much driving defence big business initiatives including future submarines.

You can add the Air Warfare Destroyer to that. After "Australianisation" it isn't all that simple.
