We should be happy to throw away $36 billion

Rent-seeking

and....

Rent-seeking

Australian industry and Defence senior leadership, along with a variety of politicians are happy to follow the poor 2009 Defence White Paper no matter what.

There will always be work for the over-stressed project of concern list.

Look at the record of Erics favoured Euopean submarine the German 212/214.
In Korea, all four totally out of service 2010 to June 2011, beacause of loose bolts.
Currently suffereing from excessive shaft noise.

Hmm

Beats the Collins record by leaps and bounds.

Do you want to sart this debate all over again. The 212/214 is not suitable for our location.

That is certainly the marketing point of it for sure. Where suitable is spending $36B (or more) on Collins debacle II.

the 212-214 is really supposed to be too small for the aus scenario (i.e. near indonesia long-term listening post).

in europe we have a special type of pay when you work outside of your country. it's a daily sum of money based on the country you work in (with regards to cost of living.. - this does not mean that you have to pay for hotel from it, it's just for increased costs) that are tax-exempt until a certain level.
the soldiers that serve in the afg get their increased (4x or somewhere in that region) wage in this form - tax exempt of course entirely.
